The Single Greatest Misconception

The Single Greatest Misconception: The Law is Abolished

If one has to choose the single greatest error that prevents the diligent Watchman from truly grasping the nature and timing of The Lord’s Return, it is the belief that God’s eternal standard of righteousness—the Law—was “done away with” or abolished at the cross.

This misconception is the root cause of the errors concerning the Sabbath, the Feasts (the Moedim), and the necessity of personal sanctification. It turns prophecy into simple history and removes the need to watch according to God’s clock.

The Misconception: A Voided Law

The common belief is that the Law (the Ten Commandments, statutes, and judgments) was a burdensome curse given only to Israel, which was nailed to the cross and completely voided by the New Covenant. This is based on a fundamental misreading of Paul’s warnings against trying to achieve righteousness through works of the law (which is impossible) rather than through faith in Christ.

The Correction: The Law is Eternal Truth, Not a Temporary Covenant

The Law is the expression of God’s unchanging character and righteousness. What was changed at the cross was the covenant (the terms of agreement) and the sacrificial system (the temporary way sin was atoned for). The Law itself, which defines sin, was magnified and established by Christ, not destroyed.

The Scriptural Authority (KJV)

  • Christ Established the Law: The Lord Himself confirmed the Law’s continuity and permanence, connecting it directly to the heavens and the earth.“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” (Matthew 5:17-18)
  • Faith Upholds the Law: The Apostle Paul, often wrongly cited as the great abolitionist, clarifies that faith is meant to establish and reinforce the Law’s authority, not discard it.“Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.” (Romans 3:31)
  • The Law is Truth: The moral and calendrical structure of the Law is inherently part of God’s unchanging nature.“For thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.” (Psalm 145:13)“Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.” (Psalm 119:142)

The Prophetic Hotspot Context

The belief that the Law is abolished is the single greatest obstacle to being a prepared Watchman because:

  1. It Ignores the Luni-Solar Clock: If the Law is gone, then the command to observe the Sabbath and the Feasts (the Moedim) is also dismissed. These Feasts, however, are the precise Prophetic Hotspots that reveal the timing and nature of Christ’s two comings. An abolished Law means an abolished calendar, which means prophecy is unreadable.
  2. It Confuses the Mark of the Beast: The unrighteous people of the end-times are defined by their submission to the laws of the Beast. The righteous are defined by the opposite—those who keep the commandments of God (Revelation 14:12). If the Commandments are obsolete, this definition of the saints is meaningless.
  3. It Destroys the Purpose of the New Covenant: The New Covenant’s purpose is not to abolish the Law, but to write it on our hearts so that we can do it. “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people.” (Hebrews 8:10)

The New Covenant enables us to walk in the righteous standard of the Law, preparing a sanctified people for The Lord’s Return and the Millennial Kingdom.
