The final message of this hunt will be: YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.

The “Be a Light” Scavenger Hunt

Starting Point:

  • Instruction: Give the first clue to the child to start the hunt.
  • Clue: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
    • Psalm 119:105
  • The Object: A lamp or a flashlight.
    • What to Hide: A piece of paper with the word “YOU” on it, hidden on a lamp or inside a flashlight.

Clue 2:

  • Instruction: The child finds the word and the next verse. The next clue is hidden near a mirror.
  • Clue: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
    • Romans 12:2
  • The Object: A mirror.
    • What to Hide: A piece of paper with the words “ARE THE” on it, taped to the back of the mirror.

Clue 3:

  • Instruction: The child finds the words and the next verse. The next clue is hidden in or near a window.
  • Clue: “He spoke to them again: ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.’”
    • John 8:12
  • The Object: A window.
    • What to Hide: A piece of paper with the word “LIGHT” on it, taped to the windowpane.

Clue 4:

  • Instruction: The child finds the word and the next verse. The next clue is hidden near something that makes a noise, like a bell or a musical instrument.
  • Clue: “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness; come into his presence with singing!”
    • Psalm 100:1-2
  • The Object: A bell, a musical instrument, or a Bluetooth speaker.
    • What to Hide: A piece of paper with the words “OF THE” on it, hidden inside the object.

Clue 5:

  • Instruction: The child finds the words and the next verse. The final clue is hidden near the front or back door.
  • Clue: “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.”
    • John 10:9
  • The Object: An exterior door.
    • What to Hide: A piece of paper with the word “WORLD” on it, hidden near the door handle.

The Final Puzzle:

  • Instruction: The child has found all the words. Now they can put them together to reveal the final message.
  • The Puzzle: “You’ve found all the clues and cracked the code, to finish this shining, bright road! Put the words in the right place, and say the final message with grace!”
  • Final Answer: “YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.”
