Beyond the Super Bowl: Choosing the Third Option of Eternal Glory

In a season where the air is thick with the clamor of competing kingdoms, it is easy for the believer to be drawn into the fray. On one side, we see the official spectacles of the age—the pride of the world manifested in flashing colors during the Super Bowl, the provocative displays of figures like Bad Bunny, and the underlying tensions of a nation grappling with the presence of ICE agents. On the other, we find the counter-spectacles: the “All-American” alternatives led by figures like Erika Kirk and Kid Rock, fueled by the MAGA movement and a desire to reclaim a cultural foothold. Yet, for those whose citizenship is in heaven, there remains a third option—a narrow path that bypasses the stadium lights and the digital battlegrounds altogether.

This third option is not a middle ground of compromise, but a higher ground of consecration. While the world debates which stage to watch and which halftime show defines the culture, the Remnant is called to turn their eyes upon Jesus. ā€œSet your affection on things above, not on things on the earthā€ (Colossians 3:2). The controversies of the hour are but a noise designed to distract us from the Signal of the soon-coming King. Whether it is the secular humanism of the commercialized stadium or the patriotic fervor of the alternative, both are rooted in the temporal. The true believer must realize that ā€œno man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldierā€ (2 Timothy 2:4).

Instead of lending our ears to the shouting matches of the culture war that surround this Super Bowl weekend, let us spend this time in the secret place with the Most High. There is a deep, theological peace in withdrawing from the digital Colosseum to study the Lord’s return. The shadows of this world are lengthening, and the signs of the times are clearer than ever to those who are watching. While others argue over pride colors or political slogans, we should be searching the scriptures for the promise of His appearing. ā€œAnd that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believedā€ (Romans 13:11).

The Lord’s return is the only event that will truly settle the controversies of our age. It is the Blessed Hope that anchors the soul when the storm of cultural apostasy rages. To choose this third option is to admit that neither the world’s entertainment nor its political reform can save us. Only the King of Kings can bring the justice and restoration we crave. In these final moments, let us not be found at the gates of the stadium, but at the feet of the Savior, for ā€œthe night is far spent, the day is at handā€ (Romans 13:12).

As the world chooses its side this weekend, will you choose to separate yourself unto the study of the King who is at the door?
