The Weekly Witness 2/28/26 The Convergence of the Falling Away and the Rumors of War

The Testimony of the Times

The world stands today upon a precipice of unprecedented volatility, where the headlines of our morning papers read like the scrolls of ancient prophecy. As we look to the East, the “rumours of wars” spoken of by our Lord have matured into a deafening roar. In this final week of February 2026, we witness the largest assembly of American naval might in decades. Two aircraft carrier strike groups, led by the USS Gerald R. Ford and the USS Abraham Lincoln, are currently positioned in the Arabian Sea, casting a long shadow over the Iranian coast as nuclear negotiations reach a breaking point. Simultaneously, to the North, the hermit kingdom continues its “year of transformation,” sending thousands of troops to foreign soil and gifting sniper rifles to its elite, while the world watches the growing prominence of a new generation of leadership in Pyongyang. Yet, perhaps most chilling is the gaze of the nations toward Damascus. Once the oldest continuously inhabited city on earth, it now sits as a “shadow of its former self,” teetering on the edge of total ruin as the Israeli Defense Forces have dismantled the majority of the Syrian military apparatus. The “ruinous heap” is no longer a distant theological concept; it is a present, visible reality.

The Scriptural Exhibit

The Word of God provides the only sure foundation for understanding these tumultuous days. We are reminded by the Apostle Paul that we should not be soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, for that day shall not come, “except there come a falling away first” (2 Thessalonians 2:3). This Great Falling Away is not merely a quiet exit from the pews, but a direct, violent war on the person and authority of Jesus Christ. We see this manifested in the horrific reports from Nigeria, now the deadliest place on earth for the faithful, where thousands of our brothers and sisters have been slaughtered for the sake of the Cross in this year alone. From the halls of Washington, where reports of this persecution are finally being laid before the White House, to the villages of India and Mexico, the blood of the martyrs cries out from the ground. Truly, the scripture is fulfilled which saith, “And ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake” (Matthew 24:9). The global rejection of Truth is the spiritual engine driving the physical rumors of war.

The Forensic Analysis

When we analyze the convergence of these events, the pattern is unmistakable. The “Falling Away” (Apostasy) and the “Rumors of Wars” are not parallel tracks, but a single, woven cord of prophetic fulfillment. The destabilization of Syria and the impending desolation of Damascus serve as the “burden” that precedes the greater conflict described in the visions of Ezekiel. The world’s focus on the military hardware—the carriers, the missiles, and the drones—is the “noise” that drowns out the “signal” of the King’s approach. The systemic persecution of Christians globally acts as a barometer for the world’s hatred of the Truth. As the nations gather their strength and the “heap of rubbish” grows in the streets of Damascus, the stage is being set for the final act of this dispensation. The Lord warned us that “when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh” (Luke 21:28).

The evidence is conclusive: we are not merely living in a time of political unrest, but in the twilight of the age. The alignment of the Middle East, the rising provocations in the Far East, and the systematic war on the saints are the birth pains of a new world order that will ultimately bow to the King of Kings. The Great Falling Away has cleared the path for the man of sin, but it has also refined the Remnant who refuse to compromise. We must not be deceived by the “peace and safety” rhetoric of failing diplomats, for sudden destruction is the portion of those who reject the Prince of Peace. We stand on the precipice, watching the “ancient paths” being covered by the dust of falling cities, yet our hope is anchored behind the veil.
