Tolerance: A Lexicon of Deception Entry

In the lexicon of the modern age, “Tolerance” is heralded as the pinnacle of human compassion and the essential glue of a civilized society. It is presented as the humble refusal to judge another’s path, a soft-spoken virtue that makes room for all behaviors and beliefs under the sun. Yet, when we bring this cultural signal into the light of the KJV, we find that modern tolerance is not a form of love, but a form of spiritual cowardice. It is the tactical silence of the Watchman who sees the sword coming and refuses to blow the trumpet. To the world, the only “sin” remaining is the act of calling sin by its proper name. However, the scripture commands a firm and unyielding response to iniquity: “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” (Ephesians 5:11). True charity does not tolerate the poison that destroys the soul; it warns against it.

The deception of modern tolerance lies in its demand for a moral neutrality that the Bible never permits. It suggests that to be “Christ-like” is to be endlessly affirming, yet the Lord Jesus Christ was the most intolerant person in history when it came to religious hypocrisy and spiritual error. He did not “tolerate” the moneychangers in the temple; He drove them out. He did not “tolerate” the false doctrine of the Pharisees; He labeled them a “generation of vipers” (Matthew 23:33). Biblical love is inseparable from Biblical truth. To “tolerate” a lie is to participate in the destruction of the person who believes it. We are told to “speak the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15), a command that necessitates a collision with error. A tolerance that forbids the mention of hell, judgment, or repentance is not a virtue; it is a cloak for the “Great Falling Away.”

As the clock ticks toward the midnight hour, “Tolerance” has become the primary weapon used to shame the Remnant into silence. It is the precursor to the coming persecution, for the world will tolerate everything except the exclusive claims of the King of Kings. When the world demands your tolerance, it is actually demanding your surrender. We must remember that we serve a God who is “of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity” (Habakkuk 1:13). The Watchman’s duty is not to be liked by the world for his broad-mindedness, but to be found faithful to the Master’s Word. We do not hate those who walk in darkness; we hate the darkness that blinds them, and we refuse to call that darkness light.
