The world today tells us that “might makes right.” It’s a place where people think being “ruthless” is the only way to survive. Recently, the leadership of Israel suggested that in the real world, Jesus Christ has no advantage over a killer like Genghis Khan. The argument was simple: if you aren’t strong enough or mean enough, evil will always win. While the world agrees with this, we have to stand for the truth. Is the safety of the Holy Land found in man’s power, or in the Hand of God?
Standing with Israel is a command from the Bible. We know God made a promise that lasts forever. We look at the “natural branches” and we pray for them, knowing that “the gifts and calling of God are without repentance” (Romans 11:29). But our loyalty is to the King of Kings, not to the opinions of politicians. When a leader says that being “ruthless” is the only way to win, he is making a dangerous mistake. He is forgetting that the walls of Jerusalem only fall when the people stop following God.
If the people were doing right, keeping the Sabbath, and throwing out their idols, no “Genghis Khan” could ever touch them. The Bible is very clear: “Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle” (Zechariah 14:3). Israel’s greatest weapon has never been a bigger army, but a Holy God. To say that the Lord Jesus—the one who holds the “keys of hell and of death”—has no advantage against a human conqueror is a lie. It is trusting in “the arm of flesh,” and the Bible warns us: “Cursed be the man that trusteth in man” (Jeremiah 17:5).
As we wait for the Lord’s Return, we have to know the difference between the Land and the Leader. We stand with the Land because it belongs to Him. We stand with the People because they are His. But we do not stand with a philosophy that puts “power” above the King. The verdict is already in: men like Genghis Khan are just dust, but the Word of our God lasts forever. Let us pray for the peace of Jerusalem, but let us also pray that her leaders remember their only real “Advantage” is the God who never sleeps.
