For decades, the secular world has brandished the carbon dating system like a scepter of absolute authority, using it to push the history of the earth into a deep, evolutionary past that defies the Genesis record. They point to the decay of Carbon-14 as an infallible clock, a silent witness that supposedly “proves” a timeline of tens of thousands of years. Yet, when we subject this “scientific” scepter to the light of the Truth, we find it is not a ruler at all, but a broken reed. The system is built upon a foundation of sand, resting on assumptions that ignore the physical “de-evolution” of our planet and the cataclysmic reality of the Great Flood. To understand why this clock is broken, one must understand that a measurement is only as good as its calibration.
The first and most fatal flaw in the system is the assumption of the “Starting Amount.” Scientists measure the ratio of C-14 to C-12 in a sample and assume they know exactly how much was there when the organism died. They believe the atmosphere has always been in a state of “equilibrium,” but the scripture and the physical evidence of the earth’s magnetic field tell a different story. We know that the earth’s magnetic shield—the very barrier that deflects the cosmic rays responsible for creating Carbon-14—is decaying and was much stronger in the ancient past. A stronger shield in the days of the patriarchs meant that far fewer cosmic rays reached the atmosphere, resulting in a world that was naturally low in C-14. When a modern lab tests a bone from that era and finds little C-14, they falsely conclude that the “missing” carbon decayed over vast ages. In reality, it was never there to begin with. The “pure” past is being measured by a “degraded” present.
Furthermore, the “Clock” itself—the rate of decay—is treated as a sacred constant that nothing can touch. Yet, the very “climate change” that the modern world fears is the very thing that proves the instability of the carbon cycle. If the environment is in a state of flux, the measurement cannot be accurate. We know that the oceans hold fifty times more carbon than the atmosphere; as climates shift and the earth groans under the weight of its own decay, the oceans outgas “old” carbon, diluting the atmospheric ratios. This creates a discrepancy that grows with each passing year. The secular scientist uses a broken ruler to measure a moving target, refusing to acknowledge that the world they see today is not the world as it was created. “For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished” (2 Peter 3:5-6).
The Great Flood was the ultimate “reset button” that the carbon dating system flatly ignores. Before the Flood, a lush, worldwide biosphere acted as a massive reservoir of stable C-12, further diluting the presence of the radioactive isotope. When that world perished, it buried that carbon, which we now find as coal and oil. The system is rigged to produce “ancient” ages because it refuses to account for a pre-Flood atmosphere that was fundamentally different from our own. We see the fruit of this deception in the “smoking guns” of science: living mussels dating at 2,000 years old and fresh volcanic wood dating back millennia. If the system cannot accurately date a living shell, why should we trust it to date the foundations of our faith?
The Truth is not found in the shifting ratios of a decaying atmosphere, but in the unwavering Word of the living God. The “de-evolution” of our world—from its magnetic shield to its genetic purity—is a witness to the fact that we are moving toward a conclusion, not emerging from a nameless, billion-year past. We do not need to recalibrate our Bibles to fit the flawed clocks of men; we need to realize that the clocks of men are desperately in need of the Master’s touch. We stand on the precipice of the end, and the evidence of the earth’s decay only confirms what the Spirit has already declared.
