The secular world would have us believe that the alphabet—the very bedrock of our civilization—was a slow, accidental evolution, a byproduct of Phoenician traders trying to keep their ledgers. But a forensic audit of the ancient sands reveals a much more deliberate and divine “technology transfer.” To the student of the Word, it is clear that the alphabet was not a human invention at all, but a tool provided by the Creator so that His Law could be etched into the hearts and hands of His people. God did not deliver His Law in the secret, idolatrous code of the Egyptian priests; He “democratized” language itself, moving from thousands of complex, pagan images to twenty-two simple letters. This was the Sinai Script, a vessel designed for the express purpose of holding the Truth.
We find the fingerprints of the Hebrew slaves exactly where the scripture says they should be. In the turquoise mines of Serabit el-Khadim, deep within the Sinai Peninsula, stone inscriptions dating to the era of Joseph and the Egyptian bondage bear a startling revelation. These carvings use Egyptian symbols, but they do not speak Egyptian; they speak a Semitic tongue. This is the earliest known true alphabet, and it predates the Phoenician “history” by centuries. One such inscription, known as Sinai 115, speaks of “Hebrews of Bethel,” while another, Sinai 361, contains the very name of the man God used to lead His people: Moses. This was not the work of high-born scribes, but of the common man—slaves who were being prepared by God to “teach them diligently unto thy children” (Deuteronomy 6:7).
The timing and the migration of this script provide the ultimate forensic proof of the Exodus. Secular archaeology is forced to admit a “coincidence” that they cannot explain: this simple alphabet appears suddenly in Egypt while the Hebrews are there, and it vanishes from the Egyptian record at the exact moment the Bible says Israel departed. Where does it reappear? It pops up in the Land of Canaan, carried there by the people of the promise. The alphabet did not evolve; it migrated. God stripped the “magic” and the idolatry out of language, replacing the “birds and beasts” of Egyptian hieroglyphs with a system of simple sounds. This was a direct attack on the “de-evolution” of the human mind, which had become trapped in the worship of the creation rather than the Creator.

By giving the Hebrews this technology of truth, God ensured that the “Great Falling Away” of the ancient world could be resisted by the written record. “And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart” (Deuteronomy 6:6). Without the Sinai Script, the common man remained a slave to the priest-classes of the world who controlled the “images.” But with the alphabet, the Law was made accessible to the plowman and the prince alike. We must realize that the very letters we use to read our Bibles are a testament to the fact that God provided the means for His Word to be preserved, unchanged, from the wilderness of Sinai to the end of the age.
