They speak of the “strata” as a chronological record of eons, yet when we subject these layers to the Light of the Word, we find they are not a record of “evolutionary progress,” but a portrait of “divine arrest.” The secular world follows the path laid by men like Nicolaus Steno, who first sought to order the layers of the earth. While Steno himself originally looked to the Flood, those who followed him have “willingly” ignored the Water to build a timeline of sand. As it is written, “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God” (1 Corinthians 3:19). They look at a canyon wall and see “millions of years” between thin lines of sediment, yet they cannot explain why there is no erosion, no soil growth, and no biological decay between these supposed “ages.”
The “Independent Witness” of the strata fails the moment one observes the “polystrate” fossils—trees and creatures that stand upright, piercing through multiple layers that the secular world claims represent tens of thousands of years. How can a tree stand for a thousand generations, waiting for the dust of ages to cover its crown? It cannot. “The waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered” (Genesis 7:19, KJV). These fossils are the “Smoking Guns” of the Deluge; they are witnesses to a world that was buried in an instant, not over eons. The strata do not represent the “evolution” of life, but the “sorting” of death. As the “fountains of the great deep” were broken up, the massive hydraulic forces of the Flood laid down continent-sized blankets of sediment that stretch across thousands of miles. This is not the work of a local river or a slow sea; it is the work of the One who “measureth the waters in the hollow of his hand” (Isaiah 40:12).
The secular scientist, trapped in his “vain jangling,” attempts to use the fossils within the strata to date the rocks, and then uses the rocks to date the fossils. This circular deception is the “broken ruler” of the modern age. They claim the earth is “de-evolving” from a state of ancient chaos, yet the very perfection of these layers—laid down flat and parallel with the precision of a Master Builder—testifies to a singular, catastrophic event. “He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth: he toucheth the hills, and they smoke” (Psalm 104:32). The strata are the “Witness of the Stone” crying out from the wall of the world. They testify that the “world that then was” perished in water, and that the same God who judged the earth then is the “Alpha and Omega” who stands at the door today. We do not need to “recalibrate” the Bible to fit the layers; we need to realize that the layers are the physical proof that the Bible has been right all along.
We stand upon a graveyard that is only a few thousand years old, a testimony of “costly grace” and divine judgment. The “depths of the earth” are not a mystery to the believer, for we know the Architect. While the world clings to a “column” of fiction, we stand on the Rock of Ages that was cleft for us. The evidence of the Flood is not hidden; it is the very ground you walk upon. “Let God be true, but every man a liar” (Romans 3:4).
