Answers to Questions: The Counter-Cultural Call to Radical Obedience

In an age where the shifting sands of “relative truth” and “spiritual openness” dominate the headlines, the soul of man finds itself in a peculiar drought. We are told that faith is a pick-and-choose buffet, a syncretistic gathering of ideas that must, above all, be “good and beautiful” rather than “true and authoritative.” Yet, amidst this cultural noise, a quiet revolution is taking hold. It is not found in the latest trends of the “Splinternet” or the hollow promises of self-help spirituality, but in the ancient, firm, and unyielding path of radical obedience to the King of Kings.

As we navigate the uncertainties of this year, we must remember that our walk is not dictated by the whims of the world, but by the Word that endureth forever. The Bible warns us that in the latter times, men would be “lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof” (2 Timothy 3:4-5). We see this today in the rise of “non-practicing” faith—a religion that claims the Name but shuns the Cross. But the true disciple knows that there is no crown without a cross, and no faith without the following.

The world cries out for “spiritual experiences” and “unexplainable encounters,” yet the most profound encounter a man can have is the submission of his will to the Sovereign Lord. It is a costly grace that demands our all. We are called to “present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1). This is the radical obedience that the world cannot understand and the flesh cannot manufacture. It is the conviction that when God speaks, the debate is over.

We look back at the giants of our faith—those who stood against the fires of political turmoil and the tides of cultural decay—and we see that their strength was not in their own resolve, but in their absolute surrender to the Truth. They understood that “to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams” (1 Samuel 15:22). In 2026, as the line between truth and fiction is eroded by technology and deception, the only safe harbor is the literal, physical obedience to the commands of Scripture.

The King is at the door, and His reward is with Him. Let us not be found among those who were “ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” Instead, let us be a people who find our joy in the statutes of the Lord, knowing that “he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever” (1 John 2:17). In this hour of spiritual confusion, may our lives be a firm testimony that Jesus Christ is not a mere “option” or a “lifestyle choice,” but the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

In a world that values “finding your own truth,” how has the objective, unmoving Word of God provided a foundation for your life when everything else felt like sinking sand?
