Answers to Questions: The Kingdoms East of the Dead Sea

Question: What were the biblical kingdoms located east of the Dead Sea?

Answer: During the time of the Kings of Israel, the eastern shore of the Dead Sea was dominated by the kingdom of Moab. To their north was Ammon (modern-day Amman, Jordan), and to their south, beginning at the southern tip of the Dead Sea, was the kingdom of Edom. These three nationsโ€”Ammon, Moab, and Edomโ€”are the “siblings” of Israel, descended from Lot (Moab and Ammon) and Esau (Edom).

Question: Why are these specific ancient kingdoms trending in 2025?

Answer: These regions are central to Daniel 11:41. As the world watches the “King of the North” (the Antichrist) sweep through the Middle East, the Bible notes a very strange geographical exception:

“He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.” (KJV)

People are searching for these kingdoms because they represent the only “Dark Zone” on the Antichristโ€™s mapโ€”a place where his power is divinely restricted.

Question: Is there a connection between these kingdoms and the “Place of Refuge” for Israel?

Answer: Many Bible students believe so. In Revelation 12:6, the “woman” (Israel) flees into the wilderness to a place prepared by God for 1,260 days. Because Daniel 11 says Moab and Edom “escape” the Antichrist, it is highly likely that this rugged, mountainous terrain east of the Dead Seaโ€”specifically places like Sela or Petraโ€”is the “wilderness” where God hides His remnant.

Question: What does the Bible say about the future of these lands?

Answer: While they serve as a refuge, they are also a place of coming judgment. Isaiah describes a “Great Slaughter” in the land of Edom when the Lord returns:

“For the LORD hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea [Edom].” (Isaiah 34:6, KJV)

The King doesn’t just return to Jerusalem; He comes from the east, from the direction of these very kingdoms, with His garments stained from the judgment He executes there (Isaiah 63:1).

The geography of the end times is being “pre-set” right now. As tensions rise in the Middle East, keep your eyes on the “Highlands of the East.” When the Antichrist cannot take a territory, you can be sure it is because God has put a “No Trespassing” sign there for the sake of His people.
