The inquiry which once fell from the lips of a cynical Roman governor remains the most pivotal question of the human experience. In a world increasingly adrift upon the shifting sands of “personal perspective” and “relative morality,” the search for truth has been treated by many as an endless journey with no destination. Yet, for the faithful, truth is not a shadow to be chased, but a solid rock upon which one must stand. It is the definitive Signal that pierces through the static of a world clamoring with the Noise of its own making. To ask “What is truth?” is to seek the very fabric of reality as it is woven by the hand of the Almighty.
Truth is not a commodity to be bartered, nor is it a consensus to be reached by the voting of the masses. It is objective, immutable, and external to the desires of man. The world would have us believe that truth is found within, but the Prophet Jeremiah warns us that “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9). Therefore, truth cannot be a product of human emotion or cultural evolution. It is that which corresponds perfectly to the mind, the character, and the decrees of God. It is the forensic standard by which every thought, every word, and every deed shall be weighed in the balance of eternity.
The foundation of all certainty is found in the revelation of the Most High. “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” (John 17:17). The Scriptures do not merely contain truth; they are the very essence of it, settled in heaven and preserved for the guidance of the remnant. This written testimony provides the yardstick for the defense of the truth, allowing the believer to discern the “Apostasy” of the age and to reject the false deities of modern thought. To know the truth is to submit to the authority of the Word, recognizing that every jot and tittle is a divine lighthouse in a tempestuous sea.
Ultimately, truth is not merely a concept to be studied, but a Person to be known and obeyed. Our Lord declared with unmatched finality, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). Herein lies the Forensic Analysis of the soul: if Christ is the Truth, then all which contradicts His nature and His Word is, by definition, a lie. Truth demands a physical obedience and a costly grace that refuses to bow to the idols of the hour. It is a firm and unwavering conviction that the King is at the door, and that His Word shall stand when the heavens and the earth have passed away.
