The Foundation of Lawlessness
Founded at the turn of the 20th century and later reshaped by Aleister Crowley, the O.T.O. operates on the central axiom: “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.” This is the ultimate expression of the “mystery of iniquity” that the Apostle Paul warned was already at work. While the world views this as “personal liberation,” the scriptural forensic analysis reveals it as a direct rebellion against the Sovereignty of God.
As it is written in 2 Thessalonians 2:7:
“For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.”
The Gnostic Counterfeit
The O.T.O. utilizes an elaborate system of degrees and rituals, many of which are a dark inversion of Christian sacraments. Their “Gnostic Mass” is a central rite that seeks to deify the self and the physical world, replacing the worship of the Creator with the exaltation of the creature. The Allure of the Secret
The O.T.O. thrives on “occult” (hidden) knowledge. In the context of The Lord’s Return, this group represents a segment of society that looks for enlightenment through ritual and shadow rather than “the blessed hope” of the appearing of our Lord. They trade the clarity of the King James Bible for the ambiguity of “thelema.”
The Word of God warns us clearly against these hidden works of darkness:
- Ephesians 5:11-12: “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.”
- Isaiah 5:20: “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”
The Verdict
The Ordo Templi Orientis is a textbook case of the “perilous times” described in 2 Timothy 3. By promising godhood and total autonomy, they lead souls into the bondage of the self. As we wait for the King, our duty is to shine the light of the Bible on these shadows, proving that there is no “secret knowledge” more powerful than the Truth that sets men free.
