The Immoveable Foundation: Why Truth Needs No Modern Crutch

In an age where the shifting sands of cultural relevance threaten to bury the ancient landmarks of our faith, there remains a singular, towering peak that no storm can shake. We look back with profound admiration at those who treated the Word of God not as a mere suggestion or a historical relic, but as the very breath of the Almighty. This unwavering conviction is the heartbeat of a soul truly surrendered to the King, for it recognizes that when God speaks, the matter is eternally settled. The scriptures are not a buffet from which we may pick and choose based on the flavor of the decade; rather, they are the bread of life that sustains us in the wilderness of modern doubt. As it is written in the holy record, “For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven” (Psalm 119:89). This divine permanence provides the believer with a confidence that the world cannot replicate, a steadfastness that looks at the chaos of the present and sees the sovereign hand of the Creator.

We must guard ourselves against the subtle temptation to polish the gospel or to apologize for the perceived hardness of truth. The theological giants who preceded us understood that the power of the message lies in its purity, not in its popularity. They stood firm upon the promise that the Spirit would guide them into all truth, requiring no supplement from the philosophies of men. If we find ourselves seeking to harmonize the eternal with the ephemeral, we have already lost our footing. Instead, we should find rest in the fact that “the grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever” (Isaiah 40:8). To admire the truth is to obey it without reservation, even when such obedience carries a heavy price in the court of public opinion. Let us therefore be found faithful, holding fast to the faithful word as we have been taught, for the light of scripture is the only lamp that can truly guide our feet through the darkness of this world.

In a world obsessed with finding “your truth,” how can we better demonstrate to those around us that there is only one Truth that actually sets us free?
