The Record
The Davidic Covenant
The forensic foundation of the throne. God established a perpetual covenant with David, promising that his seed would reign forever—a prophecy fulfilled in Christ.
“And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.” — 2 Samuel 7:16
The Divided Kingdom
The forensic result of idolatry. Following Solomon’s reign, the nation split into Israel (North) and Judah (South), leading to a series of kings who either “did right” or “did evil” in the sight of the Lord.
“And the king answered the people roughly… and spake to them after the counsel of the young men…” — 1 Kings 12:13-14
The Prophetic Warning
During the era of the Kings, the prophets served as forensic witnesses, warning the monarchs of coming judgment and calling the nation back to the Law.
“Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways…” — 2 Kings 17:13
The Babylonian Captivity
The forensic execution of judgment. Because of persistent rebellion, the throne in Jerusalem was overturned and the people were carried away, just as the Law had foretold.
“And he carried away all Jerusalem, and all the princes, and all the mighty men of valour… none remained, save the poorest sort of the people.” — 2 Kings 24:14
