The Two Resurrections and Judgments

This chart addresses one of the most fundamental (and often muddled) timelines in eschatology: the separation of the saved and the unsaved in both resurrection and judgment. This clarifies the “blessed hope” of the righteous.

EventParticipantsTime (Prophetic Order)Scripture Reference (KJV)Significance
The First ResurrectionThe Righteous Dead in ChristAt Christ’s Return/Rapture (Before the Millennium)“For the Lord himself shall descend… and the dead in Christ shall rise first.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16)The Saints receive their immortal, glorified bodies to rule with Christ.
The Judgment Seat of ChristThe Resurrected Saints (Believers Only)After the First Resurrection (Before the Millennium)“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body…” (2 Corinthians 5:10)Judgment for rewards and degrees of authority, not for salvation.
The Second ResurrectionThe Unsaved Dead (Wicked)At the End of the Millennium“But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished.” (Revelation 20:5)The wicked are resurrected to face eternal condemnation.
The Great White Throne JudgmentThe Unsaved Dead from all agesAfter the Second Resurrection (Final End)“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:12, 15)Judgment for condemnation based on works, leading to the second death.
