The record of Jahaziel is found among the “mighty men of valor” and the prophets of the sanctuary. One Jahaziel was a Benjamite who joined David at Ziklag, a man of such “Physical Obedience” that he could use both the right hand and the left to sling stones and shoot arrows. He was a master of the tools of war, dedicated to the defense of the anointed King.
Another Jahaziel, a son of Zechariah, was a Levite who stood in the midst of the congregation when Judah was surrounded by a vast enemy host. The Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he delivered a “Verdict” of absolute hope: “the battle is not yours, but God’s.” His prophetic voice silenced the fear of the people and led them into a victory of praise, reminding the remnant that the Word of the Lord is the ultimate weapon in any conflict.
“And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” (2 Chronicles 20:15)
