Who Was Jehoaddah?

The name Jehoaddah, which signifies “the Lord has adorned,” appears in the genealogical records of the tribe of Benjamin. As a descendant of Saul, he occupies a position within the lineage that links the early history of the monarchy to the later restoration of the people.

He is identified as one of the sons of Ahaz, residing in the line that descends from Jonathan, the son of Saul (1 Chronicles 8:36, 9:42). Though his narrative is brief, his presence in the record serves to demonstrate the meticulous preservation of ancestral lines through generations of change and upheaval. By maintaining these records, the people ensured that the history of their fathers remained intact, providing a clear witness to the origins and movements of the tribes even as they navigated the complexities of their era.
